Celebrating Lois Ehlert

Families sent in plastic containers and using paper and glue sticks the kids made fish tanks. We saw this idea on a video by Scholastic about Lois Ehlert.

Learning About Lois Ehlert

After watching a video about Lois Ehlert we wrote some of the important things we learned about her as an author and illustrator.
I got this great idea from Sharon Taberski's book It's All About The Comprehension. She calls this activity Words, Words, Words. A Lot of the teachers in my school call them WOWWord or 20/20 words.

After reading Fish Eyes we made paper cut fish pictures. We looked at the different designs she created in her fish.

How-To Plant a Garden

At the back of Lois's

books she gives great information about the topic/subject. Her books are an easy introduction to writing How-To Stories. We read Planting a Rainbow Garden and wrote a class How To.
