Five for Friday

Five for Friday is Five random things from the week linked to Doodle Bug Teaching!

1. I just learned about this amazing app on IPhone called BooksApp2 for scanning your books with bar codes and I can't get enough!! I love that it automatically sorts you books, lists you books by authors and you get great little pictures. So, if I am in the bookstore I can just take out my cell phone to see if I have it!

2. I am beginning a new unit on Monday focusing on informational writing. We started to kick it off by recording What we Think we know about Ladybugs.  I really didn't feel like writing their response so I put a Voice Thread on the Smartboard and had the kids get up and share their thinking! You can click on a face to hear some answers.

3. I am currently reading Ivy and Bean to my class. I wish I read more chapter books to them but I can never find the time. This is my first chapter read aloud this year...bad teacher!!! I love this book, it brings me back to childhood memories.

4. I am reading Debbie Millers second addition of Reading With Meaning and I am surprised that she has added a lot more! If your a Debbier Miller fan I strongly recommended it...she's amazing!!

5. My school has a new tradition called GREEN Swap {St. Patrick's Day}.  A shout out to Mary who creates/organizes this event.
1. Anyone who is participating, brings in a green item that is wrapped.
2. All wrapped items are put on a table.
3. Teachers take turns picking an item, unwrapping it and putting it on.
4. At the end of the day everyone brings their green items to Mary's room, Mary puts them away for the following year.
Here is our group after the swap this morning! The kids love seeing everyone a little silly on this day! Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

I do love Debbie Miller. I read her first edition of Reading with Meaning but haven't read the 2nd. I'm glad to hear it's even better than the first.

I LOVE your blog! You do AmAzing things with your students. Do you have more information about voice thread? Is there a cost to that program?
